systematic illusion:
The Subtle Technique
in an Earthquake Detector
Construction

2011

Live audiovisual performance with visual captures from Cornwall and Portugal and sound constructed with words. A poetic understanding of landscape, place and identity.

 Book that accompanies the performance

The second event of the series with the name of Systematic Illusion - The Subtle Technique in an Earthquake Detector Construction - has as themes the visible and the invisible within layers of processes.
Systematic Illusion as series of performances that take identity and self representation, recurrent themes in the work of Ana Carvalho, into a realm between real and fictional. The bridge is visual, through symbolic representation of objects together with the ritualistic movements of the hands that refer to the magician and the making of an illusion.
Through its aesthetical and conceptual themes the spectator will findconnections to previous performances by Ana Carvalho and Magenta Interior. The creative and reflective process explores references to an exterior world, in a sort of “family album” of textual and visual resources. This is an album made of affinities with other authors (musicians, poets, film directors, etc) and favorite sentences caught by change and re-presented, translated and re-created for this work.
Systematic illusion is full of audio and visual colorful intimacy.

The performance was first presented at The Exchange - Penzance, 14th October 2011 as part fo the Decalcomania Project.
